Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) Recovery
About Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) Recovery
It’s important that you follow your surgeon’s instructions for recovery after you undergo a rhinoplasty to ensure that you heal properly and experience as few complications as possible. Let’s look at the recovery process.
While the eyes may be the windows to the soul, the nose must be something else essential, though I can’t really figure out what it may be. The nose really does affect the overall appearance of the face. Some noses are cute, some have character, some have real definition. Whatever the case, the nose complements and enhances your entire face. When your nose
The surgery to recontour and reshape the nose is known as a rhinoplasty (also called a nose job). The surgery will help alter the shape, size, and contours of the nose to something that a patient finds more desirable and more appealing.
Best Candidates for Rhinoplasty
Good candidates for this facial rejuvenation
option are people whoa are in generally good health and have a positive yet realistic attitude about surgery. These patients generally have noses that they wish were straighter or better contoured. People with crooked noses and injured noses are great candidates as well. In some cases, structural problems of the nasal cavities can be adjusted through rhinoplasty.
The pre-operative and post-operative phases of surgery are essential for a good recovery experience. Let’s go over the whole procedure so you know what to expect as you recover from surgery.
Prepping for Rhinoplasty Surgery
In the weeks before you undergo surgery, it’s important that you stay healthy and prepare for the post-surgical procedure. Be sure to do as your surgeons order. In general, this will mean that you should:
- Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol
- Stop taking any medications that thin the blood
- Pick up any medications we advise you to
On the actual day of your Puebla rhinoplasty (nose job)
, be sure not to wear any makeup and that you clean your face thoroughly before coming to the practice. Be sure to arrange for transportation to and from the practice, and ideally you should have someone serve as a caretaker for you for the first two days after surgery.
Recovery After Rhinoplasty
During the first 24 hours of surgery, pain, discomfort, swelling, and nosebleeds are common. Patients should remain in bed with their head elevated and try their best to rest. Patients should not touch their nose or blow their nose during this period as it can lead to complications, poor healing, and changes in the shape of the nose.
During this period of recovery, patients must avoid strenuous physical activities and stay well hydrated. Patients should also avoid wearing eyeglasses since they rest on the nose and can cause unintended warping of the surgical work. Patients should not travel by airplane since the pressure can have adverse effects.
After about a week of healing, patients will visit our practice so any stitches or packing can be removed. Over the next few weeks, the patient’s condition should improve substantially. Sports and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least another two weeks, however, and patients need to refrain from blowing their noses for at least another eight weeks.
