Best Candidates for Rhinoplasty
Good candidates for this facial rejuvenation option are people whoa are in generally good health and have a positive yet realistic attitude about surgery. Prepping for Rhinoplasty Surgery
In the weeks before you undergo surgery, it’s important that you stay healthy and prepare for the post-surgical procedure. Be sure to do as your surgeons order. In general, this will mean that you should:
- Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol
- Stop taking any medications that thin the blood
- Pick up any medications we advise you to

Be sure to arrange for transportation to and from the practice, and ideally you should have someone serve as a caretaker for you for the first two days after surgery.
Recovery After Rhinoplasty
During the first 24 hours of surgery, pain, discomfort, swelling, and nosebleeds are common. Patients should remain in bed with their head elevated and try their best to rest. Patients should not touch their nose or blow their nose during this period as it can lead to complications, poor healing, and changes in the shape of the nose.
During this period of recovery, patients must avoid strenuous physical activities and stay well hydrated. Patients should also avoid wearing eyeglasses since they rest on the nose and can cause unintended warping of the surgical work. Patients should not travel by airplane since the pressure can have adverse effects.
Follow-Up Appointment
After about a week of healing, patients will visit our practice so any stitches or packing can be removed. Over the next few weeks, the patient’s condition should improve substantially. Sports and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least another two weeks, however, and patients need to refrain from blowing their noses for at least another eight weeks.
